6 resolutions

December 28th, 2007 by ..byxbee

This sounds like a reasonable list, although five items would be optimum (same as the number of fingers).

Six Financial New Year’s Resolutions That You Might Actually Keep

  1. Promise to save something each paycheck, no matter how little.
  2. Pay off one debt. Just one.
  3. Learn something about finance.
  4. Pick one area of your spending and work on controlling it.
  5. Take care of one financial chore you’ve been putting off.
  6. Save something for retirement.

learn from the past

December 27th, 2007 by ..byxbee

Nice overview of several financial crises. However, the summary of lessons learned will be interesting - Was anything actually learned? And were these particular lessons applicable to the financial mess that is unfolding before us?

Financial crises: Lessons from history
BBC News

Among the key lessons of previous major financial crises are:

  • Globalisation has increased the frequency and spread of financial crises, but not necessarily their severity
  • Early intervention by central banks is more effective in limiting their spread than later moves
  • It is difficult to tell at the time whether a financial crisis will have broader economic consequences
  • Regulators often cannot keep up with the pace of financial innovation that may trigger a crisis.

local shopping mall … You just might find that you’ve happened upon the 2007 equivalent of a town square or community gathering place.

At least that was how the California Supreme Court characterized the modern mall in its decision Monday to protect the ability of unions and political protesters to pass out leaflets to shoppers.

Ron Paul’s visibility on the political horizon must be increasing. A smear ad appeared in the NYT and was subsequently retracted.
